Overview

Klein Bonaire (Little Bonaire) is a flat, uninhabited coral limestone island located about 800 meters off the central west coast of Bonaire. The entire island and its surrounding reef are part of the protected Bonaire National Marine Park.

What you’ll see

Because it is only accessible by boat, the reefs around Klein Bonaire see slightly less diver traffic than the main island’s shore dives, resulting in incredibly pristine hard and soft coral gardens.

  • Dense forests of gorgonians and sea fans.
  • Very high likelihood of encountering Sea Turtles (Green and Hawksbill).
  • Occasional sightings of Spotted Eagle Rays cruising the drop-off.
  • Abundant macro life, including the elusive seahorses in the shallow gorgonians.

The Dive Experience

Diving here is typical of the region: a shallow terrace that drops off into a steep slope. Many dives around Klein Bonaire are conducted as gentle drift dives, where you simply let the mild current carry you along the reef wall before being picked up by the boat.

Getting There

Unlike most of Bonaire’s diving, Klein Bonaire requires a boat. All major dive operators in Kralendijk run daily boat trips to the various moorings around the islet, which usually take only 15-20 minutes.
