Overview
Something Special lies just a short walk north of the main harbor in Kralendijk. It doesn’t look like much from the surface, and underwater it features more sand and rubble than the typical pristine coral reefs of Bonaire. However, that rubble is the perfect habitat for some of the rarest and most fascinating macro life in the Caribbean.
What you’ll see
This is a site where you want to swim slowly and look closely:
- Longsnout Seahorses camouflaged amongst the rubble and small sponges.
- Various species of Frogfish hiding in plain sight.
- Abundant eels, including spotted morays, goldentail morays, and sometimes sharptail eels.
- Frequent flybys from Spotted Eagle Rays and Tarpon in the shallows.
The Dive Experience
A very relaxed shore dive, perfect for underwater photographers. You enter via a small beach or steps, and the reef gently slopes down to about 25m. Because you are looking for small creatures, the pace is incredibly slow, allowing for long bottom times. It is also an exceptional night dive.
Getting There
Located right on the edge of Kralendijk. You can park on the road just past the marina.
