Overview
Santa Rosa Wall is legendary among drift divers. Beginning at around 15 meters, the reef abruptly drops off into the abyss. It is a thrilling, high-speed dive where the current carries you past massive coral pillars and giant barrel sponges.
What you’ll see
The sheer vertical drop provides a perfect vantage point to look out into the blue for pelagics, while the wall itself is full of life:
- Spotted Eagle Rays gliding in the current.
- Large Loggerhead Turtles feeding on sponges.
- Nurse sharks resting under coral overhangs.
- Schools of vibrant Queen Angelfish and Creole Wrasse.
The Dive Experience
Because of the strong, sometimes unpredictable currents and the sheer depth of the drop-off, this site is strictly for Advanced divers who are comfortable with drift diving and strict buoyancy control. There are huge swim-through tunnels carved into the reef that offer temporary respite from the current.
Getting There
Santa Rosa Wall is located on the southwestern side of Cozumel. It’s a short, 15-20 minute boat ride from the main marinas south of San Miguel.
