Overview
Turtle Harbour is a protected, shallow reef system on the north side of Utila. Because it sits inside a bay, it offers shelter from the prevailing winds.
What you’ll see
Its calm waters and healthy, sloping coral make it an ideal playground for beginners. As the name suggests, it is a reliable spot to see hawksbill turtles, along with eagle rays and schools of blue tangs.
The Dive Experience
This dive is a very relaxed exploration of a shallow, protected reef system. You’ll descend into calm, clear water, surrounded by healthy coral formations, particularly large stands of elkhorn and staghorn coral. The dive profile is usually very shallow, often not exceeding 15 meters, allowing for extended bottom times. It’s a fantastic site for beginner divers to build confidence while observing the abundant Hawksbill turtles and colorful Caribbean reef fish.
Getting There
Accessible via boat from the main dive centres in Utila town, taking roughly 30-45 minutes to traverse around the island.
