Overview
Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain) features stunning underwater volcanic rock formations. The geological architecture here is arguably more impressive than the reef itself.
What you’ll see
The yellow-tinged walls, deep overhangs, and striking swim-throughs provide a dramatic backdrop. It is a fantastic site for spotting Atlantic stingrays, cuttlefish, and large schools of bream.
The Dive Experience
Entering from the rocky shore, you immediately notice the striking contrast between the yellow volcanic rock and the deep blue Atlantic water. The dive involves navigating through a maze of basalt columns and swimming through dramatic arches carved by ancient lava flows. The topography is the main attraction, but you’ll also encounter unique marine life adapted to the cooler waters, such as large Atlantic stingrays resting on the sandy patches between the rocks.
Getting There
This is typically conducted as a shore dive from the pebble beach at Costa del Silencio, though it can also be reached by boat.
