Overview
The HMS M2 is one of the most unique wrecks in the UK—an aircraft-carrying submarine that sank in 1932. It sits upright on the seabed off the coast of Dorset.
What you’ll see
Diving the M2 is an incredible historical experience. The massive hangar doors are open, allowing you to look inside where the seaplane was once stored. Visibility varies, but on a good day, the scale of the submarine is breathtaking.
The Dive Experience
Diving the HMS M2 is an atmospheric and historical experience. You’ll descend a shot line through the often-murky English Channel waters. As you reach the seabed at around 30-35 meters, the massive, intact hull of the submarine comes into view. The highlight of the dive is swimming over the open hangar doors, a stark reminder of the vessel’s unique design. The wreck is heavily colonized by conger eels, large crabs, and lobsters, making it a thriving artificial reef.
Getting There
Typically dived from hard boats or RIBs departing from Weymouth or Portland.
