Overview

Columbia Reef is spectacular for its massive coral pinnacles that rise from the deep. These towering structures are covered in giant barrel sponges and sea fans, creating a surreal underwater landscape.

What you’ll see

This is a classic Cozumel drift dive. You will effortlessly glide past the enormous pillars, ducking out of the current behind coral heads to look for resting nurse sharks, eagle rays, and massive loggerhead turtles.

The Dive Experience

This is a quintessential Cozumel drift dive. You’ll enter the water negatively buoyant, dropping down to about 20-25 meters alongside massive coral pillars that rise towards the surface. The current does all the work, carrying you past massive barrel sponges and sea fans. The key to this dive is tucking into the lee side of the coral structures to find resting nurse sharks and massive sea turtles seeking shelter from the flow.

Getting There

Located far south, it requires a longer boat ride from the main town of San Miguel, typically 45 minutes to an hour on a fast panga.
