Overview

Careless Reef is an offshore pinnacle in the Red Sea, completely exposed to the open ocean. It is formed by two main coral towers that rise from a plateau at roughly 16 meters.

What you’ll see

Known for its dramatic drop-offs and strong, unpredictable currents, it’s an advanced dive. However, the currents bring in pelagics—you can often spot giant moray eels, schools of barracudas, and occasionally whitetip reef sharks.

The Dive Experience

Careless Reef is for experienced divers comfortable with unpredictable conditions. The dive usually starts by dropping onto the plateau connecting the two main coral towers. From there, you’ll explore the steep drop-offs on the outside of the towers, looking for pelagics in the blue. The currents can be strong, requiring good buoyancy and air management, but the reward is a truly wild and unspoiled Red Sea environment teeming with large predators.

Getting There

It is about a 60-90 minute boat ride from Hurghada, depending on the departure marina and the sea state.
