This guide provides practical, un-sponsored advice on how to select and contact reputable local operators on the ground in Lanzarote.
The Diving Bases in Lanzarote
1. Puerto del Carmen (Playa Chica) — The Shore Diving Capital
If you want easy beach walk-ins and volcanic drop-offs, stay and dive in Puerto del Carmen. Playa Chica is home to the island’s most famous sites (Agujero Azul, La Catedral, and El Muellito).
- Safari Diving: The only centre situated literally on the sand of Playa Chica. Highly convenient for rolling out of bed, grabbing a tank, and walking 15 metres into the water.
- Manta Diving Lanzarote: Located a short 3-minute stroll from Playa Chica beach. A British-run centre with low student-to-instructor ratios, excellent kit maintenance, and daily guided shore trips.
- Daivoon Diving: Operating nearby with friendly, experienced multilingual guides and flexible multi-dive packages.
2. Playa Blanca — Southern Boat Diving & The Underwater Museum
Located in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is the departure point for boats to the Museo Atlántico (an artificial reef sculpture museum at 12m–15m depth created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor).
- Rubicon Diving & Calero Diving: Operating modern RIBs out of Marina Rubicón for museum tours and southern reef pinnacles.
4 Questions to Ask When Contacting a Lanzarote Dive Centre
- “Are all dives from Playa Chica guided, or do you offer unguided buddy tank hire?” If you and your buddy are experienced Advanced divers, hiring 12L or 15L tanks and weights directly from local beach shops is remarkably cheap (€10–€15 per fill).
- “What wetsuits do you provide in winter and spring?” From November through May, water temps hover around 18°C–19°C. Make sure the shop supplies a 5mm or 7mm suit plus a hooded vest if needed.
- “What is your maximum diver-to-guide ratio on the Blue Hole?” Due to the depth (30m) and volcanic chimney, reputable operators cap groups at 4 to 5 divers per guide.
- “Do you offer flexible multi-dive packages?” Most Puerto del Carmen centres offer 6, 8, or 10-dive packs that can be shared between buddies or spread across your holiday.
Booking Direct
Always book directly with the dive centre via their official website or WhatsApp. Direct booking ensures the shop has your exact certification level, shoe size, and medical history logged before your arrival.
